IDOT is soliciting public comment about projects.Letters are due by March 3 and should be sent directly to IDOT. Phase I and Phase II engineering have been completed for the widening of Route 30 from New Lenox through Frankfort to Harlem Avenue. Included in the project are traffic signals at Locust and 80th Avenues. Improvements to the road would dramatically improve safety, the flow of traffic and would ultimately stimulate businesses in the area. “This is an opportunity to once again draw attention to the need for improvements to Route 30. The Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act could provide funding for this long overdue project. Citizen letters have an opportunity to focus funding on this critical project,” commented Frankfort’s Mayor Jim Holland. Letters should be addressed to: Illinois Department of Transportation Office of Planning & Programming Room 307, 2300 S. Dirksen Parkway Springfield, IL 62764 Phone number is 1-800-493-3434 or visit www.dot.il.gov/email.html (Click link to download in .doc form.) Sample Letter USE YOUR OWN WORDS.Dear Planning and Program Administrators: Federal funds from the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act should be used to widen State Route 30 from Williams Street in New Lenox to Harlem Avenue in Frankfort. I understand that Phase I and Phase II engineering are complete for this project. While there are several parcels of land that still must be acquired, sections of the roadwork can begin immediately. Improvements to the road would stimulate businesses in the area. I drive on this stretch of Route 30 almost daily. There are delays and accidents as cars block the road to make left turns. Backups at intersections commonly force me to wait several light cycles before proceeding. Route 30 improvements are needed, warranted and have been in the planning stage for many years. Let's get this worthwhile project underway. Sincerely, |
